Understanding Verified Player Score (VPS)
A transparent, data-driven rating system that helps scouts and coaches discover talent
The Verified Player Score (VPS) is a 0-100 numerical rating that represents a player's overall ability, similar to how a credit score represents financial health. It's calculated using verified data from multiple guest spot experiences where professional coaches evaluate players across technical, tactical, and mental dimensions.
Why 0-100?
The 0-100 scale is universally understood and makes it easy to compare players at a glance. A score of 75+ indicates elite-level ability, 60-74 represents competitive travel-level players, 40-59 shows recreational-to-intermediate skill, and below 40 indicates developing players.
VPS uses Bayesian averaging to ensure fair, accurate scores even for players with limited guest spot history. This statistical method prevents outlier ratings from skewing scores and gives more weight to players with consistent performance across multiple evaluations.
Three Core Dimensions:
Technical Ability
Ball control, passing accuracy, shooting technique, dribbling skills, first touch
Tactical Understanding
Positioning, decision-making, game awareness, teamwork, adaptability
Mental Strength
Attitude, coachability, resilience, communication, leadership
Bayesian Averaging in Action
If a player receives one 90/100 rating from a single guest spot, their VPS won't immediately jump to 90. Instead, the system factors in the "global average" (typically around 60) to prevent inflated scores. As the player accumulates more ratings, their VPS converges toward their true ability level.
Verified Player Score (VPS)
- Objective rating from professional coaches
- 0-100 numerical score for easy comparison
- Used by scouts/recruiters for talent discovery
- Requires multiple guest spots for accuracy
Badge System
- Gamified achievements for player motivation
- Visual rewards (Gold, Silver, Bronze)
- Tracks participation and milestones
- Fun leaderboards for community engagement
Think of it this way: VPS is your player's "credit score" for soccer ability (used by scouts for recruitment), while badges are like "frequent flyer miles" (fun rewards for participation and growth).
How many guest spots does my player need for an accurate VPS?
We recommend at least 3-5 guest spot experiences for a reliable VPS. The more data points, the more accurate the score. Players with 10+ guest spots have highly reliable VPS ratings.
Can VPS go down?
Yes. VPS reflects current ability based on recent evaluations. If a player receives lower ratings in subsequent guest spots, their VPS may decrease. This encourages continuous improvement and honest self-assessment.
Who can see my player's VPS?
VPS is public and visible to scouts, recruiters, and college coaches with paid subscriptions. This transparency helps your player get discovered by the right programs. Parents can control visibility in player profile settings.
How is VPS different from club team rankings?
Club rankings are team-based and often subjective. VPS is individual, data-driven, and verified by independent coaches across multiple guest spot experiences. It provides an unbiased view of a player's true ability regardless of their club affiliation.
